It has been a short year

Today I told my supervisor and the head of our dept that I am leaving. I was so very nervous, and now it seems almost surreal. I think it’s because even though I have been planning this for so long, it doesn’t seem real, so to say it aloud to other people seemed very strange.

Now we are down to just under 3 months—2 months, 3 weeks, and 4 days, to be exact. We are going to have to start in on some of the items on the to-do list.

Another change: we are not going for a flat-search trip at all. I reserved a holiday flat, a studio somewhere in the Belsize Park area, for the first month. I hope that works out and that the place is bearable. All I know is that they allow pets. We’ll search for our “permanent” (i.e., at least 6-month) flat once we are over there. In January we will instead go to NY for a few days and apply for K’s visa.

We are going to have a going-away party on 17 February. That will be the Saturday after my last day of work.

Very soon, within the next couple of weeks, I will have to investigate opening that UK bank account.

There has been a long gap in my entries. For a while it seemed like there was not much progress, but we are getting to the point where we really need to act, figure things out, and start getting things done. Time is going to go by quickly. I think I will make new entries more often now.
